new safety way to sell alcohol in pubic

I usually don't understand reson for drinking alcohol in almost people because I think most of drinker know about flaw of alcohol ,but they are still drink it.I worry about teenage that begin drink alcolhol because they think it is an adult acting so if they drink alcohol they will be adult. Whereupon when I read "Wine vending machines test breath before sales"on the BBC News today, I have a little hope.

A wine vending machine in the US state of Pennsylvania have some barriers before customer get a wine. first this machine will check age and money of customer then customer will take a breath at breathalyser to prove that they are sober and a door will opening.Finally it have CCTV cameras are monitored by state officials as a final safeguard to prevent a machine to sell to minors or inebriate.

After I read this issue; I think it better than not do anything, but it cann't prevent those people to buy wine from this machine because in a few minute I can think way that I will buy from this machine if I am minor or inebriate, such as I will ask adult to buy it for me if I am minor, or I will drink a lot of water befor I test at breathalyser for decrease concentrate of alcohol in my breath if I am inebriate. I think it is hard to set program for machine to classify customer because human thinking will discovery a way in someday whatever how complicate of program and I think seller will need customer from buttom of heart so they will give a way to buy their product in some way. I think this machine will not stand at Thailand because Thailander can buy alcohol at every near their house. finally I think people will drink alcohol as long as it make monney for seller.

  1. I drink alcohol. I can't say how often but approximately 2 times a month. My reason for drinking is it fun, or funnier, when you get drunk. You can't get a drunk feeling from any other way, maybe you can get the feeling from drugs but that worse.

    About this wine seller machine, I think it will not help reducing amount of people who drink and maybe it will help buying wine easier because now you can just go into this machine, check your status, and get a wine. It just reduces shopkeepers work.

    I agree with you that this machine will not be useful in Thailand with the same reason, Thais can buy alcohol from any shop sine 8.

  2. Unlike Math, I don't drink alcohol, but I don't think there is anything particularly wrong drinking it, and many of my friends do. That doesn't worry me, although I do think it's a bit boring being around people who are drunk, although a bit of wine does seem to make people more relaxed and fun.
    Math did say something I thought was a bit odd: "maybe you can get the feeling from drugs but that worse" (August 7, 2010 5:53 PM, ¶ 1). First, I thought this was odd because alcohol is a drug, and I'm not sure that it's right. I think the effects on users' bodies and minds of alcohol are sometimes worse than the effects of other drugs, such as marijuana, heroin, ecstasy and so on.

    As I was reading Golf's post, I also had another idea, but since I've already responded to Math's comment, I'll leave my other idea until later.

  4. then how do you think about cigarette vending machine? i saw cigarette vending machine in japan with checking I.D. and i think this job that making special I.D card for this kind of machine is not so easy and i felt it's so tired to make, we need to fill a form and need to send copy of passpot and something more. it takes more then a week. so i just gave up to make. actually we don't have this kind of machine in korea yeat as our acceptance by locals isn't enough to grow. i think i must has some reason why this kind of vending machines goes well. i'm a smoker and sometimes i like to drink. but not much. Math. i just wonder why u got a nagative thinking about alcohol. because of in culture? think about that. if we go to holland, we can smoke marijuana legally. someone said,marijuana is better than smoking cigarette;;

  5. In my opinion, alcohols, including wine, beer, and etc, are not drug because you can stop drinking it any time you want. Almost all of my friends drink alcohol but none of them is alcoholism.

  6. Above is answer for Peter.

    This is for Yu nil,
    I think you missed my point, I don't have negative thinking about drinking alcohols. I drink for fun too.

    About your cigarette-vending-machine topic, I think cigarette need more attention, caution, than alcohol because you can smoke everywhere anytime if you have a lighter and it can annoy others easier.

  7. There used to be cigarette vending machines in Australia, but they are illegal now. I think they should be legal - if children use them to buy cigarettes illegally, it is the children who are criminals, not the businesses that provide them as a convenient sales option for adults who are legally allowed to smoke. It's the children who have committed the crime and who should be punished, or perhaps their irresponsible parents. I don't see how the business that provides the machines has done anything wrong if other people, such as children, use the machine illegally.

    And alcohol vending machines?

  8. Math,
    Thanks for your reply @ August 7, 2010 8:01 PM.
    I think that our disagreement here is similar to the disagreement over whether or not homosexuality is an illness, and has to be settled the same way.

    What do you think is the question we need discuss here?
    And what is the similar question that needs to be discussed before we can settle the argument about whether homosexuality is an illness or not?

  10. Peter,
    I think the question we need to discuss is where (include how and why) is my definition of drug, and homo, come from and where is yours.

    Yu nil,
    I've change my nick name, see.
    About comment your post, as you can see, many of my comments produce arguments, I don't really want it, so if I don't have some knowledge about it, I avoid comment it.
    At last, yesterday, I put all my effort in "discussion" with Aim, it so hard, he have very good skill in "discussion" and his reasons are better than me.

  11. yunil, I accept that I have bad feel about drinker because when I work at ER, I see a lot of drinker go to ER with accident and they aren't cooperate to cure their wound and I see this situation for many times so I think if you drinking alcohol, you wiil be careful for your safety and people around you but I see accident from drinker to ER every day so I hver bad feeling to a drinker.

  13. I think that sociability is the most common reason why do people drinking alcohol. Frankly, I used to be one of them when i was a college student because everyone in my class went there then why wouldn't I.

    I agree with golf(S) that wine vending machines won't prevent anything at all. They shouldn't even have invented it. How many time they are trying to decrease drinker? It won't be success. There even have a pub at my College[London]. I would say, Once a drinker, always a drinker!

    @peter's comment [August 7, 2010 6:12 PM]
    I feel the same as you about how boring being around drunk people. I dislike to get near them[non of my friends are]. Some lay on a street, Some shouting, Some crying, Some fighting, those are really disgust me.

  15. Math(@August 7, 2010 8:01 PM )then math. what is a drug? it should make us keep take that? i saw many people take a marijuana because they can stop when they want.But cigarette, it's really difficult to stop. so which one is grug then???

  16. Golf,
    Your word "socially drinking" remind me about one of my friends. He don't drink any alcohol but he get along with us, the walking alcohol bottles, very well. When we go to pub, he only drink some soft drink. When we get drunk, he is the one who pick us up and deliver to our dorm. I don't know he has fun near us or not but he go to pub with us almost every time.

    Yu nil,
    My definition of drug is the definition that I learn when I was a elementary school student. A drug is "anything that when it absorbed into your body, your body and mind will want to have it more and more, you can't stop having it, and it will cause disease to body and mind".
    That is why I think alcohols are not drug because I, in my case, can stop drinking whenever I want. I've tried cigarette but I dislike it so I stop smoking just after a week.

    ReplyDelete
  17. In this class i feel i should stop smoking, more stop drinking as well;;
    anyway the definition of drug is not simple.
    this is what i think.
    it's depend on culture and region.
    e.g.
    1.In india, some state allowed
    to smkoe a marijuana which is illegal in other state in the same country. you can buy it a government shop for a marijuana in there.

    2.In Butan
    Cigarette and acohole is treated as a drug.
    it has been banned for butanese.

    so for me, it's really difficult to define.
    for my opinion, drug is To walk out of the spirit of the major For short periods of time.

  18. I just checked the Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary's [OALD] definition of drug.
    It lists two very different definitions. I don't think either definition is very good, so we need something better than the OALD. (Or perhaps you disagree with me and think that one or both of the OALD definitions are good enough for us to use.)
    Math and Yun Il have given their suggested definitions of the word drug. What do others think? How can we best define this word so that we can decide, for example, whether alcohol is a drug or not?

    (And my thanks to Golf for a post that has led to such a productive discussion so far.)

  19. A lot of comments over here so I should skip them and give some comments before read all yours comments. Actually, This topic is the topic that I'm interested in a lot, and I just read it yesterday on evening after I had back from drinking with my friends.
    I think, take a breath to check breathalyser with this machine is not exactly way to distinguish sober and drunker people. Like Golf(s) said, there are many way to buy it.
    Unlike golf(s), I don't think most of minor start to drink because they resemble to be adult as they drinking. It's unreasonable; they just want to try and have fun with their friends. The fist time I started to drink is when I was in university. I was 18 years old and the cause of drinking was my friend's birthday, so I totally disagree with you in this idea.
    @Peter and our classmate
    After I read Golf comment, I'm curious that we should understand in the same way; what does exactly drunk people means ? then we'll talk in one direction.
    - people who can't control yourself ?
    - asleep ?
    - be unconscious ?
    - tipsy ?
    - throw up ?
    How do I know when I'm drinking that I'm drunk ?
    In my opinion, drunk means
    - listen to the same music but it's more melodious.
    - deeply understand what's music talk about.
    - talkative
    - etc
    But I can back to my home by myself, so am I drunk ?

  20. I think that wine vending machines won't decrease dinker, or even affect drinking habit.I always drink with my friends, just have fun. Drinker should limit themselve how drunk they will, just feel relax and can control yourself is ok for me. In my opinion,The problem of drinking alcohol is drinker limit.

  21. Net,May be my thinking about reson to start drinking alcohol is not correct because I think with my experience about smoking that I found in urban that I make a research that I link to drinking alcohol with a same reason.
    Other question, I just check the Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary's [OALD] definition of drunk. A definition is "having drunk so much alcohol that it is impossible to think or speak clearly"so if you can back to your home by yourself,I think you will not drunk.
