We
try not to get in the car all weekend. Link Hovenman family is among
a growing contingent of eco-minded and health conscious urban parents
who are leaving there car keys at home and relying on high-capacity
cargo bike for family transportation. Cargo bikes initially catered
to the "hard-core DIY crowd people who wanted to carry around
really large objects like surf-boards or big speaker or kayaks.
To
use bicycle in daily life on even weekend can safe energy and
reduce global warming. We use vehicles for transportation which it
burned fuel such a huge amount. Then we should use bicycle instand of
your own vehicle, it also save your money and eco-friendly. In
the same time, we do exercise and happiness natural.
However
it is not suitable in some country such as in Thailand because of too
hot weather. It make a cyclist weakness under sunlight. The
roads are not supported cyclist because it have not bicycle lane
while as many vehicle cars run on the roads and so dangerous. Now a
day you may hear about cyclist were hit by drunk and careless
drivers. In addition to it damages a lot of your own and public
asset.
For
Prevent an accident, Bangkok governor is trying to provide new
protected bike lanes and improve existing ones for commuters and also
encouraged cyclist to avoid main roads and exercise to ride in public
parks

I like the idea of bicycle lanes. But they have to be proper bicycle lanes on the road, not silly lines painted on the footpath. One of the silliest things I've seen was when a Bangkok governor, I think Samak Sundaravej or perhaps Sukhumbhand Paribatra, implemented an extensive "bicycle lane" system. One lane ran along the footpath on Rajadamri Road from the Erawan Hotel to Lumpini Park: it was just a white line painted on the footpath, and when it came to obstacles like bus stops or electricity transformers, it abruptly stopped at one end and continued on the other side. Perhaps the governor thought that bicyclists could teleport themselves in an amazing way unknown to modern physics through the solid object, emerging on the other side. Quantum tunnelling on a macro scale?
ReplyDeleteI'm sure several groups made some money out the scheme, which successfully took a great idea and turned it into expensive foolishness.
I would love to see real bicycle lanes taking up one lane on lots of roads. I wouldn't get out cycling myself, but the increased ease of getting around for some people and the increased disincentive to drive a car for more people might prove very good for Bangkok.
I do agree with you that Thailand does not suit for cyclists. Especially, in Bangkok's rush hour, it is quite terribly, unsafe and too hot.
ReplyDeleteIn a few days ago, I heard the news of cyclist who died while she was riding a bicycle. That's so sad story and Thai's Law does not strong enough to take it as a guilt. Thai policemen released the defendant to came out. I think the outlaw should not bail out but he deserves sentenced to imprison 10 years or more than that.
If Thai's law is not so weak, Thailand would move ahead as Singapore.
Although I think that people should be found guilty in court before they can be said to be guilty, however obvious their guilt might look, those who are not an obvious flight or other risk should be released on bail until their guilt is proven.
DeleteBut Aoh does remind of a grave injustice in the Thai legal system: we hear often of people who are charged with crimes such as posting on Facebook, or scribbling on a wall, and they are held in prison without bail for a long time. This does not look like justice, but something very immoral.
Posting on Facebook, or writing a magazine article, do not kill or otherwise harm people, so how could it be just or moral to hold such accused persons on remand in prison without bail, especially when, as Aoh reminds us, those who have seem very likely to have actually killed are released on bail?
I am also reminded of the amazing case of the Red Bull heir, who apparently ran down a police officer on duty, tried to get a family servant to take the blame, and was still release on bail by a court! Naturally, he fled Thailand and justice as the judge had invited him to do.
Nowadays trend of riding a bike is increasing. I joined bike tour around Rattanakosin, it's quite dangerous because of no any lanes for bike on the road. However, the problem have already solved because I have just seen lanes for bike and our city is trying to make a bike campaign to reduce using cars. The campaign is that people can use public bike which are available in Bangkok but the campaign is a small and the bikes are not enough for many people.
ReplyDeleteI think that it's the good beginning to save the world and my environment. I really encourage the government to go on this project.
I agree that there should be new bike lanes for cyclist. However, if governor decide to build these lanes by separating from main road, I will not agree because the main roads in Bangkok are narrow and I think the new lanes will be snatched by motorcycle or tuk tuk.

ReplyDeleteI do agree with you, Por, that Thailand does not suit for cyclist because of hot weather and narrow road. In some road, It is very narrow road with a few lanes. If government want to build a cycling lane by using some space of road lanes, Thailand will have more traffic jam and walking will be faster than driving a car.
ReplyDeleteI want to ride a bike, but I'm too afraid of the car in the city. They drive too fast you know!, I'm in a residential area which has a speed limit but they always drive so fast like they just don't care God damn it!!!, and that's why I'm always feeling paranoid whenever i ride my bike on the street, It's like you won't even know when you are going to get hit by a car, even if you ride it in the safest way possible on earth.
