According to the article "HIV home test kit goes on sale in UK" (2015) from BBC News Health, it is reported that the company "Bio Sure UK" successfully made a HIV test-at-home kit which available for sale online in England, Scotland and Wales. It has the same procedure as a pregnancy test kit, that is measuring the antibodies in one's blood, but it is still not 100% sure that person has not got infection if the result is negative since it takes 3 months for antibodies to response to the HIV virus, that means if you take a test in a period less that 3 months after the infection, it will show that you have got HIV free.
I think it is a useful invention for people nowadays because in some countries and cultures it is not quite acceptable thing for individuals to go to check HIV. It is believed that if a person has to check it that means he is infected.
I do not know if this disease has a treatment that can absolutely help patients get rid of it or not, but it must be good to know if the person has got the infection or not. The earlier you find out, the more chance to overcome it.
Even though there is one limitation about the period of time, I do not think it is problem cause you can test at home and if you are not sure about the result you just have to try again next month.
Although I do not know how much it cost, I think it is worth buying because it is means your health.

ReplyDeleteIt's a good idea for using HIV test kit at home instead of going to the hospital. But I do worry that the test results might make mistake and it might not 100% to show that you are infected HIV virus or not.
ReplyDeleteFrom my point of view, I think going to hospital for checking your health is still the right choice and if you are infected, it can cure yourself immediately. Just forget shamefulness and care your health first if you still want to have a long life.
Unfortunately, HIV is not currently curable. But early treatment is certainly better than late.
DeleteI am interested in this news too. I think it is very creative to do HIV test kit. Although, it cannot give 100% sure test results in some case, you can test it in next months for sure. In the future, it may be increase sensitivity and accuracy of test and can give accurate result even if person has infected virus.
ReplyDeleteI think that it's a good invention but it is hardly useful because HIV test kit is only primary test in which people who suffer from the disease may feel embarrass; however, finally, the people have to go to see a doctor and confirm the test by hospital lab again. I think that it wastes a lot of money on it.For new idea, the innovation should apply for testing at hospital; for example, nowadays, testing is using blood sample; consequently, if the test kit can make sure and test on the patient, it will be save and no pain for the patients.
