False advertisment

I firmly believe that everyone has ever seen false advertisement. Let's share!

According to Consumer affairs FCA finds 20% of loan and credit companies' ads break advertising rules, The FCA examined that most of consumer credit products and across all medias did not meet the rules that state such promotions or advertisings. Actually, These must be clear, fair and not misleading.

This article remind me that I face this problem many times. When I was a child, I bought an instant noodle and imagined that inside it will be the same as an image which was on the packaging. But when I opened, it was surprising me, there was only fried noodle and seasonings, no meat and vegetables at all.


Another example, 2 days ago, my friend just posted this picture, her caption was “This is my last time to buy this sandwich.” This is not my first experience, I have heard a lot of cases with this problem, but it still happened again and again.

Actually, I do not understand why the company do this. I think it is not useful for the business. It may decrease in manufacturing costs and make a profit in short term. But it is not a good way to success in business in long term. The consumer will only buy it the first time and never buy it again. Extremely, in the age of globalization, not only can not the company get money from one consumer, but one’s society too. 

In my opinion, this problem can be tackled by increasing efficiency in measure to guard the rights of consumer. With cooperation from consumer, not support the products. At last, entrepreneurs must have business ethics.

  1. I'm wondering what Nan means exactly when she writes that part of the solution to false advertising is "increasing efficiency in measure to guard the rights of consumer" (para. 6). Who should do what to whom and for whom?

  3. sounds interesting. This problem seems to appear everywhere. I agree with you that entrepreneurs must have business ethics. at least, it will help them to be successful in long-term business. I have faced this problem when I eat instant noodle too but I already got used to it Lol

  4. You raise an interesting issue. I think that you introduce the problem that definitely close to our daily life. Basically, I experience that what we saw on the advertisement is always better than the real one. And then I will be disappointed at the product every time in those cases. In my perspective, it’s unfair for consumers because most of people believe in what they have seen on the advertisement so that why they have bought the product. Therefore, if the advertisement exaggerated, it should be penalized in order to protect the consumer right.

  5. I've been in this situation once when I went to Indonesia and bought Spongebob ice cream, when I tore a package I was shocked because SpongeBob face looks like a ghost and it was quickly melted in my hand.
