‘Pinocchio’
is a very famous character of the children’s novel that every parents love to
tell their child at night. His nose will grow longer as a result of being greedy
or lying. If you’re trying to imagine that the nose of T-Rex, king of dinosaur,
grew longer, you might find it cute and funny. But in fact, this long-nose Rex
was faster and stealthier than other Tyrannosaur. It sounds more like Pinocchio
in a deadly version.
According
to “New Tyrannosaur named 'Pinocchio rex',” a new type of Tyrannosaurus, the fierce
king of carnivore, has been found. And because of its distinctive
horny snout, it was nicknamed 'Pinocchio rex.'
At
first, I pictured it like a Velociraptor with no feathers and longer nose. But Velociraptor
is only about 2 meters long when this fossil is 9 meters long. It’s about 5 times
longer. I felt a little bit shock thinking about 9 meter deadly Pinocchio.
Their horny snout is very interesting, too. The researcher said that they might
be a few different Tyrannosaur lived and hunted the entire Asia during Cretaceous
period, targeted different prey. It reminds me of the different kind of beaks in
birds that live throughout the world. They vary in size and shape and perform
different functions. The anatomy of the beak can help us guess what they
eat or their behaviors, so let’s hope this Pinocchio’s exceptional snout could
reveal us more secrets about it.
When I
was young, I had wanted to be a Paleontologist, a person who studies about
prehistoric life, once. I wanted to go around the world, dig up fossils and clone
dinosaurs. But when I grew up, I started to know that it’s impossible and illegal
to clone a dinosaur, so I didn’t want to be a Paleontologist anymore. However,
I still love to read stories and research findings about dinosaur. It’s very
fascinating to learn about the creatures that had been living in this world
before us.

When I was a little child, I obsessed with this prehistoric animals. I used to collect the Dino-sticker, Books and plastic dinosaur which I think number nearly a hundred.
ReplyDeleteMe, too. When I was in primary school, one of my favourite drawing subjects were massive dinosaurs, and they still hold my interest. I wonder if all children are so fascinated?
DeleteOne of my Thai friends and his seven-year-old son often visit Paragon for a meal and some shopping, and Ea never tires of looking at books and DVDs on dinosaurs, which healthy interests I'm happy to encourage. And I find myself looking over his shoulder with equal interest. I'm not quite so keen on loitering around the toy department, but I'm pretty sure I did enjoy it when I was seven, and my mother might not have.
Is it really impossible to clone a dinosaur or in some other way resurrect them?
ReplyDeleteSurely it can't be illegal in all countries?
But my real question is: if we could do it, should we do it? And under what conditions?
In my opinion, we should clone dinosaurs just for study them. We have to do it in isolate chamber, or may be the lab room on the far-away island. I'm not worrying about the possible breakout of dinosaurs, like in Jurassic Park. I'm worrying more about the bacteria, virus and pathogen that can grow in dinosaur body and spread out to human. So that's why we have to do it in isolated chamber on isolated island. If something's up, we can just bomb the island out.
DeleteBomb the island out!!! That’s so cruel, isn't. However, I agree that it might only want way to cope with this problem if something undesirable happens.
DeleteAnyway, I suggest that we should carefully think about outcomes before doing something too.
But we would have to also recreate the "the bacteria, virus and pathogen that can grow in dinosaur body" (Parichat Panyawisitkul [Petch] May 8, 2014 at 7:05 PM). Or would the dinosaurs be able to use our internal parasites?
DeleteWhen I was a child, I used to like everything about dinosaur. I used to have a dinosaur doll, it's a brown Triceratops, bought it from U.S., I think.
ReplyDeleteI really love to see dinosaurs alive. If it is possible to clone the dinosaur, please do not hesitate to do it. They are going to be an amazing creature in today's world and a lot of children will totally enjoy watching them.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was young, I enjoyed watching Jurassic Park. The films are fascinating. Cloning the dinosaur sounds like a magnificent idea. But if we did something like in the movie, it would be really dangerous, wouldn't it. It might also cause the problem to our ecology.
ReplyDeleteSame as many people, I also like dinosaur too when I was a kid. One of my favorite dinosaurs is T-Rex. After I had grown up, I changed my mind to Godzilla. Is Godzilla some kind of dinosaur?
DeleteBy the way, I’m looking forward to watching Godzilla next week.
If we could clone a dinosaur, it would be like Jurassic park(movie). It sounds like a interesting ideas.Cloning dinosaur might be a risk project because if we can't control them,it will end like the movie.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure that if we could bring them back, we could also get rid of them, as Petch suggests in here comment above (Parichat Panyawisitkul, May 8, 2014 at 7:05 PM).
DeleteWe humans have shown ourselves quite good at sending other species to extinction, although nature is even better at extinction than we are.
But if we did bring dinosaurs back to life, would it be OK extinguish them later? Why or why not?
