According to #BBCtrending: #RealMenDontBuyGirls and the #BringBackOurGirls campaign The hashtag #RealMenDontBuyGirls and #BringBackOurGirls as well as the images of celebrities holding these signs have been tweeted globally thousands of times recently. The ideal is to call for the release of the more than 200 girls kidnapped by Boko Haram militants in Nigeria. But actually these hashtags are not just have been popular at this time but there were a campaign started by Ashton Kutcher three years ago.
I strongly think that tweeting and posting these signs on social network is very useful. Even though it might not be the most effective way to give Boko Haram more pressure to return the missing girls but at least it shows that a lot of people not only in Nigeria but also around the world are concerning this situation and badly want to rescue the missing girls from this kidnapping. And it is definitely true that keep tweeting and posting these signs is better than doing nothing or thinking that it is none of your business to help these girls.
No one can argue that nowadays it is hard to find gentlemen or real men in our society. As a result of a lot of crimes are committed and a lot of both girls and women are treated terribly by men. However, there is something that proves this opinoin wrong. Ashton Kutcher,an american actor, started the Real Men Don't Buy Women campaign in 2011 in order to fight earnestly for both girls and women. In my point of view, I think he is like the light at the end of the tunnel for me to realize that real men and gentlemen are still exist in the society and they are still willing to put their affords on trying to help girls and women.
Hopefully, I wish that tweeting and posting #RealMenDon'tBuyGirls could be one of the factors that stimulate people to rise up and do something to help the missing girls to get back home safely as soon as possible. This campaign is not only the other way to help saving the missing girls but it also indicates everyone to realize that real men are still exist.

When I read Ploy's third paragraph, I wanted to ask whether women are treated better or worse today or in the past.
ReplyDeleteAnd I think Stephen Law has something to say that is relevant to this in the pages of "Carving the Roast Beast" that you are reading over the weekend.
So, what's the answer? Are women nowadays treated better or worse than they were in the past?
And I'm sure that Ploy's interesting post has raised other questions that you will want to follow up.
DeleteIf a husband treat his wife very well. She may think that her husband is a very gentle man. On the other hand, if the man molest another woman, she may think that he is very rude man. Therefore, is he still a gentle man?
ReplyDeleteUsing hashtag always makes global trend in twitter, I wish people will rise up soon. Sometimes I think there's still no sexual equality in our world because the old attitudes and social norms that used to defined woman as a fragile gender. however, I'm not agree with that because women are moms which men can't raise the children like them. so why don't they respect and act properly with women?
ReplyDeleteNowadays, there are many people all around the world using twitter and I am one of them, but I haven't seen this hashtag before. So while I am reading your blog post, I sign in twitter and search this hashtag for seeing what people tweet #RealMenDontBuyGirl.
ReplyDeleteUsing social networks to help these girls who are kidnapped is a good idea for ordinary girl like me because it is impossible to go to Boko Haram and help them by myself but this way shows that people all around the world worry about it and stimulates someone who are responsible for this problem to concern that everyone are looking after them, what do they do to bring these girls back. However, that's good to know that not only women ,but also men find anyway to help all missing women.
If men were kidnapped, it would be an another story. I think when men were kidnapped, nobody care about it. Because i haven't heard about it before. Do women care if there are news about men kidnapping? I'm sure that gentlemen do exist and when the time has come, you will find one.
ReplyDeleteI think this news can teach many people in Thai society because it's unacceptable that man who is the leader of family don't care or neglect his woman and can't be the gentleman. And we also admire at man who advocates himself for the others in every times.
ReplyDeleteAnd if men are designed by nature to be less than gentlemen, does that make it OK?
ReplyDeleteThere seemed to me a connection here with an opposing argument to Stephen Law that a few people have suggested in that discussion.
actually i'm not sure that this campign significantly force Boko Haram to free those women, because militant dictatorship in Nigeria -- and also in the other developing countries -- is not removed easily. Boko haram have still been a poerful organisation.
ReplyDeletehowever, i think this campign is a good sign for equality between men and women. hopefully, i expect that this project can encourage every men to respect woman right. not only kidnap, but also in every area such as rape, trafficking and violence. i think those problems have still exist because neither Boko Haram nor large illegal organisation, but because our little discriminating habit. we can see men enjoy buying girl (with sex purpose) and brag with his friends without any guilt. although this commerce is legal in some countries, i think it's very ridiculous that a man brag with friends about a girl slept with him because his money, not his charms.
so, it's much better if this campaign can helps men to change such little habits. maybe it's better than to force Boko Haram free those women. however, it is the best if it can be succesful in both issues.
