In Thailand, religions play some role in economy. For an example, Buddhist's use of incense for worshiping cause incense industry to grow. Some nation's economy is effected by religious belief : such as, Israel which all economic activities are stopped during Yom Kippur , Jewish's Holiest Day. All companies, shops and airports are closed. Even, Driving is considered impolite on that day
ReplyDeleteIn Thailand, religious beliefs and values are one of factors that can directly affect an economy system. For example, the swimsuit of Victoria’s Secret on which there is Buddha image, cannot be sold in Thailand even though swimsuit's not a regulated product at first and Thailand tends to be a market. It’s obvious that religious beliefs on Buddhism cause the regulation for the economy system in Thailand. As Wann’s blog post , the religion play significant role in Iran so much and also create some mandatory rules for economy system as in Thailand.
ReplyDeleteIn Phuket, people actually concern a lot about religion. The effect of religious beliefs is very large, and you can see it clearly when the Vegetarian festival comes. Almost all restaurant in Phuket will sell only vegetarian food, and everyone becomes vegetarian. As a result, restaurants that don't sell vegetarian food will get very little money. Industrial foods for vegetarian also grows, too, especially fake-meat and additional protein product.
ReplyDeleteI don't know much about other nation. But I have heard that in chirst countries, they have a holiday when everyone goes to local churches and praise the lord. In that day, people should not work, but to rest. That's why it effects commercials. But I'm not sure about it.
Those lingering elements of traditional economic system. And in Australia today?
ReplyDeleteAs with my last comment, on Hartmann's question 1, my initial response was: "it's not important." But then I thought a bit more, read your comments, and now I'm not so sure that the traditional elements are all that small in Australia's mixed economy.
Again, there is a bit more thinking needed here before I'm ready to add anything that reflects my ideas on this to a thesis statement.
Religious beliefs and values are one of importance factor that affect our life. They are not influence economy directly in Thailand. For example, Buddhism says that drinking liquor is prohibit; for this reason, on Khao Phansa festival, many department stores stop selling liquor until the festival finish. However, in United States, religious beliefs have a large impact on economy. On Christmas, many people go shopping and have gift giving. Therefore, this holiday season is good for the economy.
ReplyDeleteBuddhism is the religion that is respected by most of Thai people, so religious beliefs is the important effect on economy in Thailand. Thai people is very touchy when the company mention something wrong about religious beliefs, and this mistake will affect its company by banning this product. In other countries, the religion also impact on economy. For example, people who respect Christian religion will celebrate and buy a lot of things to give to another in religious festival, such as Christmas and Easter.
ReplyDeleteEvery type of religious belief influences on the people's value of demand and supply in different countries. In Thailand, there are many kind of Buddism, some people, who respect a Budhist god named "Guan Yin", they also deny to buy meat. In addition, Muslim population don't want pork products because they have believed this type of foods is dirty.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, in other countries, religious and belief effect on people to need goods depend on religious ceremonies like much turkeies wanted in Easter day, chicked and duck needed in Chinese ceremonies days.
I think religious beliefs and values have some effects on the economic. Some kinds of product such as sex toy are not allowed to sell in Thailand because of religious beliefs and values. They believe it's morally wrong and it makes people to be obsessed with sex.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, pork products are forbidden for Muslim because their religious beliefs and values. God has prohibited it. For this reason, pork products can't be sold obviously in some Muslim countries.
In Thailand, religious beliefs and values affect the economy in many ways. For example, values, almost all women in Thailand prefer imported cosmetics to own ones because they think It is better quality for sure. On the other hand, in other countries, regions also affect the economy. For instance, India, I think they mostly are Islam. They have to eat chicken or other kinds of meat more than us instead of pork, so the economy there are impacted totally.
ReplyDeletei think religious beliefs have a significant influence on some Arab countries like Afghanistan. Islamic law makes market in Afghanistan extremely different. for example, a lot of goods from american are banned, and Afghan economic system is very protectionism and conservative; in orther words, they do not definitely want to contact with other countries and adopt others' products or cultures.
ReplyDeletefor Thailand, in my opinion, religious beliefs do not affect Thai economic system much, because Thai cultures and foreign cultures are mixed together. for instance, Thais have adopted a lot of foreign festival such as Chinese New year, Christmas and Valentine's Day. However, values of Thai people have still fairly impacted economic system. for instance, Thais would mostly like to stay in comfort zone -- that is, they do not want to take risk or do something new. This make Thai people do want to compete in the global economy. as a result, many people want their government to protect sensitive sectors. besides, today there still are a lot of people do not like AEC coming in 2015.
Religion affects our country for many ways which come from society beliefs, there're many nationality in Thailand such as Thai-Chinese in Yao Warat, that site is very popular in chinese temple and we have to make Chinese funeral ceremony for the deaths. however, Thai people always celebrate every special day even it's relate to our religion or not such as Valentines day which is from Christian, Roses price in flower market will be risen for many times every year because my school is near the flower market so I know how people are crazy with this day.
