Bell's Creative Process: Handmade Mother's Day Card

Whenever August is coming, I have to come up with a present for my mom because her birthday is in August and mother's day in Thailand is also in August, so for me it's like killing two birds with one stone. If I have time, I will make my mom a birthday/mother's day card to show my appreciation and gratitude towards her. I think making a card really express those feelings to my mother very well because I design and make the card myself and it is also a good way for me to express my creativity.

I first brainstorm ideas about lots of things, such as what kind of card it would be, what kind of decoration it would have, what kind of material I should use, what message I would write and so on. I do not want to make the same kind of cards that I made before and I want to wow my mom, so it has to be something amazing!!! (I hope I could make it in time.)

Next, it comes to organizing my ideas which is a very hard step for me because I would have lots and lots of ideas and I like most of them, especially when it comes to choosing just one kind of card to make. I also organize the material used in decoration and tools that I need for making the card. If I don't have the material then I have to buy them (using my mom's credit card, so please don't tell her because it would be like she's buying her own gift >_<).

Anyway, now that I have all the things I need. Drafting would be the next step. I make the birthday/mother's day card for my mom. I carefully do the decoration as I have designed and complete the whole card no matter how long it takes me.

Then, I review my card by looking at the design, the balance of decorations, the artistry of the card (if there's such a thing555) and I also check if this card express the feelings that I want my mother to know or not.

For the revision, I make some changes if needed. For example, if the color of the decoration is too pale, I would apply more color or if the message does not convey my feelings, I would write another one.

It's time for publishing or what I would like to call it "the moment of truth". I give my card to my mother on her birthday. If she likes it, then my mission is complete, Huray!!!. (Of course, she would like my card but still I would be very excited to give her the card because it contains all the gratitude and feelings that I want to convey to her.)

  1. I like Bell's chosen topic. If it were my mum, I might change the card to chocolates. And hope that after publication a few came back my way for a final quality review.

    1. Thank you Peter. That's a great idea!!! I will give her chocolate or bake her something next year (I already made her a card this year, so I have to wait until next year55) and hope that she'll let me have some too \(^_^)/
